One-Day Introduction to Tree Climbing Get a first taste of recreational tree climbing and see how you like it. BEGINNING COURSES Basic Tree Climbing Course (BTCC) This course is for those who are just starting out to learn rope-and-saddle tree climbing. The focus is on Doubled Rope Technique tree climbing, the style of climbing developed by tree care professionals using friction knots on a supple rope. It is the most versatile climbing technique and is most appropriate for spreading hardwood trees under 80 feet tall. Offered alone or as part of Basic Tree Week. This is a week-long intensive course for beginners that combines BTCC, Rigging and Introduction to Single Rope Technique (SRT), plus plenty of time for practice with instructor available for coaching. Emphasis is on Doubled Rope Technique (DRT). Basic SRT Course and SRT Tree Week SRT (Single Rope Technique) Tree Week begins with the three-day Basic SRT Course. Then we expand on it, adding tree top rigging, canopy camping, and tree-to-tree traversing. It is a gear-intensive class, using a lot of hardware such as ascenders, pulleys, grapnels, swivels, and descenders, plus a range of special purpose knots. So if you love slick equipment and want to access the tallest tree tops, you'll want to learn single rope technique. Students may enroll in more advanced courses only after passing one of these beginning courses or an instructor-approved equivalent. |

ADVANCED COURSES Focusing on single-pitch DRT rescue scenarios, this 3-day workshop prepares climbers to effectively respond when a fellow climber is in distress. For graduates of BTCC or Basic Tree Week. For experienced DRT tree climbers with their own gear, this is an opportunity to open your senses and explore your intimate ties to trees and the natural world. For graduates of any of the above courses, this program trains students to safely guide others on a tree climbing experience. |
