Tree climbing courses will be offered before the Rendezvous weekend. Additional tree climbing-related opportunities are available between Thursday, September 8 and Thursday, September 22. See full schedule below.

WHERE

Oregon Caves National Monument and adjacent Siskiyou National Forest, near the town of Cave Junction in southwestern Oregon. The Monument was established as part of the National Park Service to preserve both the magnificent marble caverns that occur here, and the surrounding old conifer forest. It is situated high up a winding road into the mountains and features a grand, rustic lodge for visitors' comfort.

TRANSPORTATION

By Air : Rogue Valley International-Medford Airport (MFR) is the nearest flight destination. New Tribe will have two 15-passenger vans and will coordinate with you to provide airport shuttle service to and from the Rendezvous. The vans will provide transportation during the gathering, carrying people and gear from the lodging areas to the climbing sites whenever needed. You won't need a rental car unless you plan travel outside the Rendezvous area before or after the event. If you do, rentals are available at the airport and 37 miles away in Grants Pass. On Mapquest , your trip is from the airport at 3650 Biddle Road, Medford, OR to the Rendezvous at 19000 Caves Highway, Cave Junction, OR.

By Car : The road may be winding but the directions are straightforward. Make your way to Hwy 199, drive to Cave Junction, and turn east on Caves Highway (Route 46). Travel 19 miles to the end of the road at Oregon Caves National Monument. On Mapquest use this destination address: 19000 Caves Highway, Cave Junction, OR 97523.

By Bus: You can travel by bus or a train/bus combination. The nearest train stations are in Eugene or Klamath Falls; from there you can take a bus to Grants Pass. We can arrange to meet you at the Grants Pass Greyhound station. There is no public transportation.

REGISTRATION FEE

The registration fee for Rendezvous 2005 is $180. Included with registration is a Rendezvous commemorative T-shirt. Course tuition and lodging costs are additional. See complete registration and enrollment information

LODGING

Due to the remoteness of our site, we encourage everyone to choose from the lodging options available at the Monument. We have arranged for you to have a wide choice of accommodations and a range of prices. Space is limited for all of these lodging options, so please register early for the best chance to reserve the space you prefer.

ALL lodging options include three meals a day provided by the Oregon Caves Chateau .

       The Oregon Caves Chateau

The Chateau is a National Historic Landmark and full of rustic charm. It is nestled vertically into the mountainside, five stories tall. Here are the choices for a room and all meals at the Chateau:

Private one-bed (queen) room for one person, $132.00 per night.

Private one-bed (queen) room for two persons, $85.00 per person per night.

2- or 3-bed (double beds) room, two persons per bed, $62.50 per person per night.

       Dormitory

This is a co-ed bunkhouse that can accommodate 22 sleepers and has shared shower and bathroom facilities. $50.00 per person per night gets you a single bunk and all your meals.

       Campground

The Caves Campground is down the trail a ways from the Chateau. Walking the trail is an option, plus we will have regular van shuttles between the Campground and the Chateau for mealtimes and climbing events. WEEKEND RENDEZVOUS!

We all climb together in the conifer forest, with Douglas Firs, Oregon White Pines, Ponderosa Pines, and Sugar Pines. This is the time everybody plays at their favorite climbing activity, from lazy Treeboating to thrilling traverses to magical high nights under the full moon. No classes or agendas will keep us from finding our own best expression as a community of people who love to climb trees.

Monday, September 19–Rendezvous 2005 officially ends

No organized activities are planned for this day. Some will be traveling home today. Our van will shuttle people to the Medford airport as needed. For those who reserved lodging for tonight, meals will be available. Time to rest, regroup, and decide what's next.

SIDE TRIPS and OTHER ATTRACTIONS

While you are in scenic southern Oregon, consider a side trip or two, and making time for additional events.

--Oregon Caves holds regularly scheduled tours of the caverns

--The Out ‘n' About Treehouse Resort is located in nearby Takilma, OR

-- Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park just across the state border is home to some of the most venerable California Coast Redwoods alive today. We recommend a pilgrimage to pay homage to our giant friends ( not to climb them)

--A beautiful 2-hour drive brings you to the Pacific Ocean at the Oregon coast

--A more ambitious drive will get you to Crater Lake National Park

--Both the Rogue River and the Illinois River offer beauty and excitement

The New Tribe crew invites you to join us for tree climbing and tree camping on our favorite nearby climbing spot, a knoll high above the Rogue River Valley with 360-degree views from the treetops. Celebrate with us and help us dream up the future!
