The Vi (rhymes with "pie") Special is a variation on a New Tribe work saddle designed for round-the-clock comfort while leading a climb and rigging Treeboats. This is the ultimate saddle Viola dreamed up for herself for a day of hard work followed by an overnight of comfort in the treetops. Here’s what she says:

The rear loop is great for passing a rope through when hauling up additional lines. It can also hold a carabiner, working like an additional gear loop. When it’s time to rest, this Saddle has no lumpy rings or hooks poking me in the back when I stretch out in my Treeboat.

On the sides, small side Ds are minimal to reduce weight. Small as they are, they are great tie-in points for the limb walking called for when rigging a Treeboat Hammock. The gear loops on the sides carry all the biners I want, and small swivel snaps make handy attachment points for radio and camera lanyards.

On the belt I like to carry an Open Climbing Bucket on the left for ascenders and various straps. On the right I use a Zippered Climbing Bucket for rappel device, pulley, grapnel, knife and chocolate.

The Vi Special is a legstrap saddle with a sliding D-ring on the legstrap bridge. It has our Extended Legpads as a standard feature, increasing support and comfort along the inner thigh.

As a work saddle, this model includes these additional details: double-density foam padding on both belt and legstraps, providing better support and load distribution, and longer wear. The belt pad width increases at rear to 6", tapering at the front. The cinch strap at waist is made of 1 3/4" parachute webbing with a stainless steel adjuster buckle that's easy to use and won't slip. Side D-rings are sewn in to life-safety standards, forged steel with a 1 3/4" inside diameter.
